Justice Schettino was born in Newark on Sept. 9, 1907. He was a graduate at East Orange High School, Rutgers University, with a Bachelor of Letters. degree in 1930; Columbia University, with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1933; and New York University with Doctor oi Juridical Science degree in 1939. Justice Schettino had been an Attorney-at-Law since 1934, a Counsellor-at-Law since 1937; and was associated as an attorney with the Law Department of The Port of New York Authority from December 1936 to December 1941. He was an instructor of Business Law at University College of Rutgers University in 1941-1942. He was a member of the following organizations: American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association, Essex County Bar Association; Monmouth County Bar Association; Alpha Beta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Rutgers University Alumni Association; Varsity Club, Rutgers University; Columbia University Law School Alumni Association and Edison Pioneers. Justice Schettino was the executive Clerk from January to June 1942 and thereafter Secretary to Governor Charles Edison up to the end of the Governor's term, Jan. 17, 1944. He was the assistant to Mr. Charles Edison, president of Thomas A. Edison, Incorporated, at West Orange, and was a member of the law firm of Budd, Larner & Schettino, 60 Park Place, Newark. .
Justice Schettino was appointed in 1947 by Governor Driscoll as the last Special Judge of the Court of Errors and Appeals under the Constitution of 1844. He was a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey until his appointment to the Supreme Court by Governor Robert B. Meyner for the term beginning March 23, 1959. Justice Schettino retired from the Court on Sept. 9, 1972. He died on March 21, 1983, at the age of 76. He was married to Theresa Lorenzo, a graduate of Barnard College. The couple had two children.
